Title -Haiku, Me and You (I Love You)

Author – Shobha Tharoor Srinivasan

Genre – Poetry (Haiku)

Publisher – Aleph Book Company

A book solely for haikus. This piqued my interest and boy o boy, I wasn’t disappointed. It felt like reading through a day of a little child.

Twenty-four poems, one for each hour of the day. A day of a little girl and her grandmother come to life through Ms. Shobha’s words and Ms. Sanya’s illustrations.

The little girl talks about how she enjoys her grandmother’s company. The fragrance of her cooking, seeing the world through her lenses, dancing in the rain with her… such small and trivial things suddenly seem so special through the haikus.

From asking riddles to playing peek-a-boo, from sipping freshly brewed tea to dancing like there is never another day, the grandmother feels younger around her granddaughter, and for the granddaughter, these are the experiences and warmth that she would carry forward.

The book ends with a request for a lullaby from the granddaughter, the song that was sung to her mother once.

The poems are so heart warming, simple and for sure would transport one back to childhood when we held the hand or the sari pallu of our grandmothers and trotted inside the house.
