He, her beloved,Â
Was far away from her,
And she eagerly awaited his return.
His smiling face flashed,
And her eyes lit up,
As they pranced through his belongings.
Her picture amongst his clothes,
Made her feel shy,
As she giggled and moved on.
The clothes captured his fragrance,
And she felt his presence,
When she caressed them with love.
Beneath the clothes she found,
A bundle of envelopesÂ
That bore her name.
Her heart skipped a beat,
As she opened them to read, rather re-readÂ
And tears, uncontrollable, rolled down.
Coincidence one may say,as the bell rang,
She raced to answer,
With a twinkle in her tear laden eyes.
To her dismay, she was welcomed,
To a casket that bore her beloved’s name,
And a bag with his belongings.
A bright coloured envelope,
Caught her attention,
A letter in her name, probably his last.
The letter survived to remain unsent,
Probably his last words to her,
And her hands trembled as she opened it.
She knelt down beside his casket,
Resting her head on his chest,
And she heard his voice, reading the letter.
How she wished for the letter to be sent
And he came back home alive…
The sent seemed better than the unsent!!!
