The Soul’s Nest, nestles the thoughts of a 14 year old. 

 

Each poem in this collection is different from the other with respect to the theme. The young poet Niranjan has filled in the pages with humour, thought provoking verses as well as various point of views.

 

While every poem is praiseworthy, listing down a few that really caught my attention and took away my heart.

 

Eye is a Camera – a simple way of telling that we should look beyond ourselves.

 

Yoga – when disconnection feels peaceful – can’t find directions on Google maps.

 

Anger – analogy of mind to a landlord and converting it to a raging bull, anger I

Is ousted by the calmness that’s practiced. 

The Baby – intense, how can a teenager think so deep?? Bullet, the baby of the gun, I mean look at the depth of his thoughts.

 

Tour– The comparison of a tour to a bird, whose wings are clipped by war. Just amazed at the thought.

 

Unanswered Questions – innocence of an adolescent portrayed with eloquence.

 

Rain – a cinematic experience, the grandeur of a film set, the music, the lighting, this poem gives us a completely different experience of rain.

 

Algae and the Asthmatic Fish – a short poem but dense in meaning, talking about pollution and the sufferings of marine life.

 

The Real Warrior -a befitting tribute to Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, the braveheart who was martyred in the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack.

 

The God and His Idol – are looking for God, don’t search elsewhere but look within you. Such a profound thought conveyed through words.

 

The Shoes – what if the shoes spoke?  a humorous take from the point of view of a shoe.

 

The Backwaters of Alappuzha – transports one to the cool water of the Vembanad lake. 

 

Python Tales – a unique way of writing like a python code, something that would resonate with the Gen Z

 

The Town that Forgot Us – ode to Thrissur pooram tragedy that happened last year. People who were responsible for the fireworks were charred beyond recognition in a freak accident. The pooram continued despite this and Niranjan has captured the poignant thoughts of the people who died through this poem.

 

Also, before I conclude a quick shoutout to the illustrator. The sketches are less in number but impactful.

 

A niche collection that can be read by people under all age groups.

 

I have read Niranjan’s words before and congratulations to him for his first poetry collection. I really wish for him to have many more books under his name.
