Let me begin the review from the cover page. The title in black  with ‘Crows’ in red, a black crow with outstretched wings and blood dripping from it. Well, isn’t that enough for a spine chilling premise? 

The novel begins with the statement -”The deeper you dig, the darker it gets”. This actually happens in the novel. The more we read into it, the more darker it gets. A headless dead body is found in the garbage bin of the Veer Jawan Park. Vimla ji, a senior citizen identifies the multi coloured socks that were there on the body.

Bhuvan, the ACP, is put on the case. He starts enquiry and soon encounters a chain of brutal murders. He is in a dilemma as every suspect that he questions has a different story. Despite identifying the first victim to be Jagat, the son of a house help, Bhuvan finds himself in a loop that doesn’t release him or give him ample evidence.

As the murders continue and he tries to solve it, Bhuvan is hammered with his personal issues as well. Not only Bhuvan, every character in the novel right from Jagat, Inspector Ghanshyam Singh, Vimla ji, each one of them has a secret that they don’t want to reveal and a life that has its own series of trouble and trauma.

Bhuvan wades through the hurdles of the case, the pressure from his superiors and with a little help from Pia, his lover, he cracks the case. Was the suspect right in front of him? Was the suspect a cold blooded killer? More than these the pertinent question was Why did the murderer do this? Read through the novel to reveal the murderer and the reason behind the murders.

Supriya has intelligently mixed human psychology into her narration. This is what makes the novel stand apart as it explores innocence that is lost. The author leaves us with a reflective thought – monsters, the most terrifying ones are often those who were never meant to be created. 

An absolutely intriguing read for all thriller book enthusiasts.
